Kim Kardashian West has discovered the secret to keeping up with both white furniture and kids.
“Oh my God. I run around the house with towels,” the mom, who recently welcomed her third child, Chicago, via surrogate with Kanye West, tells archdigest.com. “You just have to take a deep breath and say, ‘Ok, it’s going to happen. We decided to have light colors.’”
The beauty entrepreneur, 37, and her rapper husband, 40, recently sold their Bel-Air mansion for $18 million after extensively remodeling it. “Our last house that we just moved out of was all grays,” says Kardashian West, “which was a good test, because we knew we were going to move into a lighter house.” The couple moved into their new place, a palatial estate in Hidden Hills, in December.
With a trial run beneath their belt, the superstar couple now has a handle on how to keep their older children, 4-year-old daughter North and son Saint, 2, from getting creative with their high-end pieces.
“We have a great playroom and that’s where all the markers and the paints and the colors are,” she explains. “I really overdo it in the playroom so that by the time they’re done there they have no desire to take a pen on a nice piece of furniture.”
Many of her pieces, crafted by esteemed Belgian interior designer and architect Axel Vervoordt, are devoid of sharp edges and outfitted in easy-to-clean linen fabrics. “We decided we wanted a house that didn’t need baby proofing,” she says.
Their newest family member received plenty of warm wishes after arriving home, as well as a few hand-me-downs from her siblings. “I’m pretty much using the same crib and everything that I had for our other kids,” says Kardashian West of Chicago’s space.
When it does comes time to make an interior decision solo, the Keeping Up star says she turns to online inspiration just like the rest of us. Specifically her app ScreenShop, which allows users to take screenshots of décor they like and match it with similar products. “It’s so cool that you can screenshot something and figure out where to get it and have so many options,” she says.
